Distressing a piece of furniture is a great way of saving something on its way to the dump. A client of ours had an old Amish corner cabinet that needed an update. This is how we did it!
We found that some of the door panels were loose so we re-attached them with some construction adhesive - then lightly sanded and cleaned the whole piece.

We started with a layer of Peppercorn Textured Basecoat. Once dry we added Chipping Crème to areas we thought would have gotten the most wear and tear. An easier way is just put the Chipping Crème over the entire piece. Chipping Crème will allow you to sand off your top color with out sanding off the color underneath. After the Chipping Crème is dry we put Bayberry Textured Basecoat over everything. |

We basecoated the top inside with 2 thin layers of Parchment Textured Basecoat to cover the old wood paneling. |
We had fun with this one. We sanded, scraped and scratched to give the piece a real aged feel. We put our Peppercorn Textured Basecoat on the shiny brass hinges and added age to them with our Rust Kit (coming early 2009). When we felt we had sufficiently banged this piece, we used our Toner and Medium Oak Liberon wax to finish the cabinet. Taking a 30 year old piece and turning it into an antique. |
