You don’t have to spend a fortune on tools and brushes to be able to do a professional finishing job.

You do, however need the right tools not only to do a good job, but also to make it simple, fast and enjoyable. We have made these tools available because we could achieve all of our professional work with these few tools…and for the most part…we do!

Now it's time to tape...
 

The Hand Masker allows you to attach an inexpensive, non-adhesive paper to your painter's tape. This gives you a wide border which allows you to work your finish without worrying about getting material where you don’t want it.  We pull off about an arms length of tape from the masker and then attach it to the wall by hand - we never try and run the masker along the wall to adhere the tape.

Non-Adhesive paper

This is the inexpensive paper to load onto a tape gun. When loaded on the gun with 1” painter’s tape, you will have almost 4 inches of protection on your molding, ceiling, corners or edges.

   

Tape choices

1” & 2” Painter’s Tape
A staple for every room you finish. The perfect amount of tack, burnishes beautifully to most surfaces without injuring when pulled off of the surface.
 
1/8”, 1/4” & 3/4” Masking Tape

We use these tapes for making stripes or plaids, taping curves or sealing difficult areas before putting blue tape over the top of it.

Unfortuantely we do not yet sell tape - but check back as we will in the future!

You will need brushes
 

4” Wooster All Purpose Brush

This natural bristle brush is essential for every one of Caromal Colours®  finishes. Although we provide a chip brush in all the necessary kits, this brush makes every finish faster and easier due to its size. If you wash it immediately after each use, you will have it for many years to come. We have many of these in our studio.

3” Badger Brush

This brush is the professional’s secret weapon. After glazes are applied to the wall, this brush softens them to a beautiful blended finish. They are a perfect size brush for softening glazes on furniture or a tiny space.

  
 

6” Badger Brush

If you love glazing, or are doing even one large room, the extra spend for this brush is more than worth it. We only recently discovered this size badger.  Wish we had this brush years ago.      

2” Chip Brush

You should have a few of them on hand for corners, edges, stippling, touch up areas and almost every purpose. Sometimes this readily available brush won’t even hold up past one washing…ours will!

    
   

1" Stencil Brush

This soft, professional artist quality stencil brush will give you years of stenciling enjoyment and won’t loose its bristles while stenciling.

3” Poly-Brush Foam Brush

Some of our instructions recommend this type of brush for application of materials to the trowel or surface. To clean them, just rinse thoroughly with water only and shake dry.

  

Care of all of the above brushes:

  • Wash with soap and water
  • We use Simple Green to wash all of these brushes
  • Spin or shake them dry.  Then hang them with bristles pointing downward.  This prevents water from loosening the glue that holds brushes like these together.
  • Brush out stubborn materials by laying your brush flat in the sink and brush with a wire brush
  • For your badger brushes, only wire brush the tip.
  • Also for your badger brushes, after prolonged use and after you have cleaned them thoroughly, rub some hair conditioner in your hands until almost dry, then run the conditioner through the bristles, allow to sit overnight, the next day wash with soap and water. This will make your badger last a lifetime.

Trowels for the timid or the bold of heart...
 

Professional Trowel (9.5" x 4")*

This Professional Italian trowel is a carbon free metal trowel.   Unlike some trowels, this one will not leave black carbon marks in your finishes. Its lightweight frame and natural wooden handle make troweling as easy as spreading peanut butter.  

*Be careful with this trowel, as running your fingers down the edges will cut you. It is sharper than it appears. To wash, lay it in the sink and scrub both sides with a scrub sponge. Any dried debris can be scraped with a razor blade.

Keep this tool away from children and grown ups who haven’t read this!

Scraper

This plastic trowel fits in the palm of your hand for easy use with our textured finishes. If you are not ready for the investment in our professional trowel, this little tool may work for you.

Whizz Roller, Roller Handle and Tray

We assembled this roller, handle and tray for its multifunction capability and its ability to get into edges and corners.   This set contains one 12" handle with 6"x 1/4" Premium Gold Stripe sleeve and 8" x 14" plastic pan. It works beautifully with our textured and non-textured materials. The roller cover washes out quickly with soap and water.

Lid Opener

Only needed to open our gallons...this little tool will save your manicure for sure.
