Our Stencils are Unique:

They are made with a durable, heavy duty mylar for easy handling.

No bleeding through stencil – you get a crisp, professional stenciled edge.

No more spraying stencil adhesive.  Just peel off the backing, lay on your surface and start stenciling.  No need to tape to walls.

One layer stencils makes stenciling quick, easy and fun.

When you are done, lay the stencil on the wax paper provided and the stencil retains its sticky back so that you can use it over and over.

Easy to clean.  Our stencils are reusable, can be washed over and over and they still stick.

We made them so easy to use.  No measuring is required, no marking registers on the wall is required because we have designed the pattern repeat right into the stencil design.

What’s more is that they are designed to allow some play in the repeated design making continued placement easy.

Painting pattern

…allows you to use your own creativity to enhance your surroundings. With a little imagination, the possibilities with stencils are endless.

Many of our stencils can be used right side up or upside down. They may be applied horizontally or vertically. You can stencil the whole design or use just part of it.

You can also be creative when determining where to place your design. Typical placement around the top of the room or above a chair rail work wonderfully. But think about using stenciled designs in less obvious places as well. For example use one or more stencils to create stripes in a room, or use several designs to create multiple patterns. A stencil above a baseboard could peek out from your furniture or guide you through a hallway. A design can be as simple as a greeting over or around a doorway.

You can use multiple, coordinated colors in your designs, or make a beautiful statement by simply using one color.

Directions for Use

…be sure your surface is clean and dry and any new paint you have applied is appropriately cured.

Bend up one corner of your stencil and craft color coated paper and peal away coated paper. Always test your surface first by sticking the stencil to a small area and removing it to be sure there is no residue or injury to the surface.

If the stencil feels too sticky for your surface, remove some of the tack the way professionals do – stick the stencil to your clothing, a rag or a piece of fabric first! The bend in the corner of your stencil will allow you to lift the stencil from area to area as you progress.

Registration marks

…have been cut into the stencil to assist you in overlay and lining up repeats. These registrations, which are stenciled along with the rest of the pattern, are there for two reasons:

  • The first is that you do not have to use tape or make marks on the wall, so you won’t have to erase anything or have tape to remove.

Second, using these registers allows you to line up your stencil without having to worry about being perfect because we have built in some play in the design.

Dry Brush stenciling

…with Caromal Colours Stencil Crème will produce a beautiful translucent stencil effect.

Dip the end of your stenciling brush into the stencil crème, wetting just the tips of the bristles.

Swirl the brush firmly into a stack of paper towels using a circular motion- this will load the brush properly and remove excess paint before application to your painting surface. Very little crème should be left on the brush.

Apply crème along the edge of the window (the shapes cut out from the stencil) using a circular motion. Work the crème gradually toward the center of the window, allowing the area in the center to remain lighter.

Go over the area repeatedly rather than attempting to cover in one application. If the crème bleeds through the window, you have too much crème on your brush.

If used in this dry brush method, Caromal Colours Stencil Crème will be dry enough to move your stencil almost immediately to the next area without smearing.

If you make a mistake simply lift the stencil up and wipe it away with a damp cloth.

Cleaning your stencil

…Lay your stencil on a flat surface on a clean piece of wax paper and spray it with a household spray cleaner. We use Simple Green to clean both our stencils and brushes.

Gently rub the painted areas of the stencil with a scrub sponge. Be especially careful around the delicate bridges of your stencil. These bridges rarely get injured during stenciling but usually get damaged during the cleaning process.

Rinse the stencil gently also using a sponge. Allow it to dry.

Place it on the wax paper or place it on the extra piece of coated paper (shiny side), return it to its plastic bag and store flat for years of enjoyment.

Tips
  • Allow stencil crème to dry between layers. Keep your stencil in place while waiting a few minutes for it to dry as moving a stencil around and replacing
  • Stencil brushes are available in a variety of sizes; select brushes that are appropriate to the window sizes of the stencil.
  • WORKING WITH YOUR BRUSH VERY DRY AND ACHIEVING DARK AREAS BY GOING OVER THOSE AREAS A SECOND AND THIRD TIME IS THE EASIEST WAY TO ACHIEVE THE SHADING SHOWN ON THE PACKAGE LABEL.
  • Stippling … is also dry-brush method substituting a firm tapping motion rather than a circular motion. Stippling will provide a clearer print on rough surfaces such as textured walls. It will add a more textured look to stenciling on a smooth surface. You may wish to load the brush slightly heavier when stippling than with swirling.Distressed Stenciling … can add interest to the design. Simply be a little more haphazard skipping some areas of the design as you stencil.
